Government & PSU routes
Diploma holders can apply for technical posts such as Junior Engineer, Technician, IT Assistant and Draftsman. Departments and organisations that recruit include Indian Railways, state electricity boards, PWD, BSNL, DRDO, ISRO, ONGC and GAIL.
You usually need to clear the relevant recruitment exam, such as SSC JE, RRB JE, state AE/JE exams or PSU-specific tests. Eligibility, age limits and vacancies change with each notification.
Higher studies
- B.Tech / B.E. lateral entry: usually direct entry into the second year, saving one year compared with the regular route, subject to eligibility.
- Certifications: CAD/CAM, PLC/SCADA, embedded systems, networking, cloud, cybersecurity, data analytics, solar technology or industrial automation can improve employability.
- Management route: degrees such as BBA or BCA can lead towards business, operations or IT-management roles. Check each university’s eligibility rules.
Self-employment
With practical skills and some field experience, diploma holders can start ventures such as:
